Option Choices in Year 9
Careful decisions are important so we hope you will take the opportunity to visit the school for the Parents' Evening to ensure a wise choice for the future.
Why Choose at 13+? Your children will, by now, have completed three years at Sir Thomas Picton and have experienced a wide range of subjects. At this stage in their education they now have an opportunity to study fewer subjects but to a greater depth. In some cases they may drop those they dislike or find difficulty with whilst maintaining a balance of subjects. In this way, their education is more likely to develop their individual interests and abilities.
Why have Options?
We have them in order to encourage children to take certain decisions for their future and to take responsibility for their own learning. Also, if they choose to do a subject, they are more likely to be motivated to want to study it. It may help them stay interested in learning and let them gain experience in making important decisions.
